About the Role
Day-Rate Contract | National Programme | Ireland
We are seeking Network Rail–competent Safe System of Work (SSoW) Planners to support Iarnród Éireann / Irish Rail in the national rollout of geofencing technology across the Irish rail network.
This is a non-delivery, advisory role. Successful candidates will use their UK Network Rail experience and knowledge of SSoW standards to help develop, assure, and embed a national geofencing framework, supporting Irish Rail in modernising workforce safety and worksite control.
The Role:
Provide expert SSoW input to the development of Irish Rail’s national geofencing framework.
Apply Network Rail safe system principles and standards to inform policies, procedures, and governance.
Support Irish Rail in adapting UK best practice to the Irish operating and regulatory environment.
Review and assure geofencing processes, operating models, and guidance documentation.
Participate in technical working groups, workshops, and stakeholder reviews.
Identify risks, gaps, and opportunities in the rollout approach and recommend practical mitigations.
Essential Experience:
Network Rail–competent Safe System of Work Planner (current or previously held).
Strong working knowledge of Network Rail SSoW standards and railway safety principles.
Experience in framework development, assurance, or standards implementation.
Ability to operate in a strategic, advisory capacity rather than delivery planning.
Geofencing or digital safety system experience desirable, but not essential.

NWR SWP/Possession Planning experience - Min 5 years
Coss Competency - Expired but experience essential
Geofencing Experience beneficial
Must be able to work in Ireland up to 5 days a week
